Meet The Director

Gail has lived in the Boston area her entire life. After the birth of her first child, Gail decided to open a family childcare home. The childcare was open for over a decade before she decided to pursue other ventures. During that time, Gail gained a reputation for providing quality care, enriching and engaging activities.

Gail was hired by the YMCA of Greater Boston in 1999. To better serve the community, Gail attended conferences, working groups, and national YMCA program schools. While working full time, Gail went to school on weekends to earn her Bachelor of Science in Human Services from Springfield College.

During her time with the YMCA, Gail held many positions with growing responsibilities. She worked as a Director of Childcare; Senior Program Director; Director of Operations, Associate Executive Director, Regional Food Facilitator with YMCA of the USA and Program Executive Director for Child Development, Compliance and Food Facilitator. Gail supervised toddler and preschool centers, before and after school programs, and summer camps, for school age children. In addition to ensuring excellence and regulatory compliance in childcare programs, she worked on several other programs that expanded services to the local community. These projects included the Summer Food program; opening a community kitchen that offered special support for families on SNAP benefits; a gardening program for school age children; beach parties and campfires on Constitution Beach in the summer; and annual fundraising efforts. As a Regional Food Facilitator, Gail mentored the ten largest YMCA’s nationally to develop and expand their programs.

In her leisure time Gail enjoys spending time with her two daughters, extended family, close friends and enjoys traveling.

Gail is excited to join the Kids & Company team. She looks forward to building relationships, while growing a strong community of professionals and families with your help!

Gail Klimas, Area Director

  • Pre-Literacy & Reading
    • Our pre-literacy and early reading and writing program is designed to excite children about the alphabet, while significantly improving their phonetic awareness. Children learn to overcome the literacy barrier in a fun and dynamic environment. Only a certified teacher with extensive experience in Early Childhood Education is given the responsibility of teaching this program. During each class, they coach children to explore a new group of letters by sound, name and shape.

The program is designed on the principles of multi-sensory learning and consists of four main styles of learning:
      – Visual (looking at the letter)
      – Auditory (listening to the letter sound)
      – Kinesthetic (sky writing the letter)
      – Tactile (printing the letter on a sensory tray like sandpaper)

Our pre-literacy program is based on thorough research of phonics instruction and phonological awareness skills and includes crafts, music, stories, games and printing practice. Children learn to overcome the literacy barrier in a fun and dynamic environment.

Parents are enthusiastic about these sessions because of its researched predictors of reading success: rhyming, blending, segmenting, recognizing sound-letter combinations and recognizing sounds within words.

  • Munchkinetics
    • Kids & Company is proud to introduce Munchkinetics, a proprietary physical education and movement program for children six and under. Munchkinetics provides a fun, safe and non-competitive environment to develop physical skills while fostering a life-long love of active play.

We’ve taken our Early Childhood curriculum and created a program that includes multiple gross motor movements to teach children balance and agility. Cognitive tasks have been incorporated into the physical games and activities requiring children to use both their minds and bodies.

Munchkinetics includes four-15 minute sessions per day with music and exercise designed to offer a variety of motor experiences. Sessions build skills over time, adding new levels of complexity once children have mastered earlier activities. This promotes self-confidence and a great deal of self-control and physical awareness. More information about the Kids & Company Munchkinetics program can be found at www.munchkinetics.com

  • Music
    • Children who play or sing music regularly perform better in an academic setting, starting with elementary school. They also tend to have higher self-esteem and are better socialized.

At Kids & Company, we believe it’s very it’s important to introduce music in the early childhood years when children are most impressionable. We offer a daily music programs in all of our classrooms. It involves interactive music, singing, rhythmic expression, activities and games that incorporate many different genres of music.

The music and movement component offers the children an opportunity to creatively express themselves while enhancing their coordination, balance, motor skills and need for active movement.
